Usability Testing (or 'are you really offering a great experience?)
Usability testing is a method of testing the functionality and ease of use of a website by reviewing all of the content, assessing the ease of access and use, as well as observing real users as they attempt to complete tasks on it.
You know of the age old saying “.. you can’t see the wood from the trees…”, well, like most things you create it’s your baby, you can’t have anything negative said about, it’s as good as it can be!
Well, that’s not always true. Often you see what you’ve created, you understand what it means, so everyone else must be of the sam opinion, no?
- We will act as an independent ‘observer’, reading every word, clicking every link and documenting what we find
- We’ll review the ‘functionality’, not just what it says, but how it works
- We will enlist a small number of ‘joe public’ to look at your site and then complete a short, targetted questionaire
This involves ‘setting the scene’, producing a short document telling the reviewer what they are looking for, the reasons they’ve opened your site and what they hope to get from it. - If you offer an ecommerce experience, we’ll ask for a test account we can use to do dummy purchaces. However, if you want us to do a full ‘end-to-end’ review, we’ll actually purchase an item from your site and see the complete ‘mouse to house’ experience.
- We will also do a full accessability review, detailing how well your site web content meets accessibility guidelines (W3C) and detail what you need to modify to meet the minimum standards.
